10/13/2020 Indicating that national wrestlers represented Turkey in the most successful way with 1705 medals so far, Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu said, “Our wrestlers did win 5 out of 8 medals in Rio. And we believe that our wrestlers will continue to make us smile and make our nation proud in Tokyo, too”.

Minister Kasapoğlu visited the camp of the Freestyle Wrestling National Team in Elmadağ.

Pointing out that they came together with the national wrestlers, who are always a source of pride, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “This is almost a base where our wrestlers give a message to the world. We are here together with our athlete friends who strongly represent our Turkish flag’s crescent and star to the whole world. Our wrestlers have represented and will continue to represent our country, making wrestling the most successful branch Turkey is at with 1705 medals so far”.

Minister Kasapoğlu said, “Our wrestlers did win 5 out of 8 medals in Rio. And we believe that our wrestlers will continue to make us smile and make our nation proud in Tokyo, too. We believe the postponement of the olympic games due to the pandemic has almost been a motivator for our wrestlers as for the athletes of other branches, and they have seized every opportunity to stay motivated and in form. They have turned the pandemic into an opportunity, so to speak”.

Stating that they always stood by athletes and their works and efforts were a proof of this, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “In 34 out of 44 centers in 41 cities, our wrestlers are training hard. In 13 of these centers, our wrestlers are training with a focus on wrestling. At these centers, 778 athletes are striving and sweating blood to represent not only our present, but also our future. I wholeheartedly congratulate all our athletes who are sweating blood for this effort”.

Congratulating also the President and the team of the Turkish Wrestling Federation, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “This is a long walk, almost a marathon. As a civilization that focuses on not today, but tomorrow, the future of mankind, our goal is to ensure that our athletes and young people be stronger and much better equipped for the future. In this context, the efforts made under the leadership of our President since 2002 in terms of building facilities and investing in our youth represent a revolution. We believe that this revolution will grow stronger as it continues”.

Herald of a new modern facility for wrestling

Stressing that wrestling is one of the branches that represent Turkey in the strongest way, Minister Kasapoğlu further said:

“We have provided and will continue to provide significant support to wrestling. Today is the 97th anniversary of Ankara’s becoming the capital. On this occasion, I would like to share good news with you regarding our ambition to make Ankara the capital of sports. We have Taha Akgül Sports Facilities in Keçiören; and right next to it, we will hopefully build a fully-equipped camp and training center that will represent our wrestling both nationally and internationally and train and prepare our wrestlers for tomorrows in a modern way. A well-equipped modern facility will be put into service of our wrestlers”.

Reminding that they laid the foundations of 9 facilities in Altındağ last week, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “God willing, we will join forces with our local governments. All across Turkey, we will continue to demonstrate with our words and actions that sports are not made up of only a couple of branches”.

Indicating that they were striving to hand down a stronger version of not only the facilities but also the civilization they were entrusted with, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “So, just as we have made our move of building facilities with an understanding that focuses on hearts, minds and personal development, we will continue building the future of our sports on the roots of our blessed civilization”.

“It befits the grandchildren of Koca Yusuf to carry on the tradition he entrusted”

Saying that, “the rules of being a wrestler involve not knowing the victory from oneself, humility and disciplining one’s soul”, Minister Kasapoğlu said:

“These feelings and thoughts that inspire our wrestlers indeed reveal a very meaningful tradition. In this context, I would like to express how happy I am that our wrestlers strongly hand down this tradition to our future. We believe that it befits the grandchildren of Koca Yusuf, who represented our country in the United States, Europe and other places in the world, to carry on the tradition he entrusted. We say that, as the Ministry and as the sports community, we are always proud and thrilled to support this civilization and this blessed path. Of course, there will be challenges, but we will never lose heart. We will never compromise on our unity, friendship and brotherhood. We will walk together to stronger and brighter tomorrows, as one and together, no matter what obstacles we come across on the road. As the sports community, our greatest advantage is our President’s sincere support to us. So, we feel stronger in every struggle we come across on each path we walk”.

Minister Kasapoğlu said, “We have European competitions ahead of us, and then the Olympics. God willing, you will represent our country and this glorious flag strongly in the Olympic games. We believe in and trust you. We are indeed proud of you, always”.

Musa Aydın: “Our target is 2020 Tokyo Olympics”’

Indicating that they were in training camp for the world championship to be held during December 12-22 with 53 wrestlers, President of Turkish Wrestling Federation Musa Aydın said, “We started training on the mats in the camp after the pandemic. There are tournaments in Croatia, Russia, Bulgaria and Poland in November, and we will see how our friends perform there. Later, we will participate strong in the world championship to be held in Serbia. Our target is 2020 Tokyo Olympics. God willing, we believe that our wrestlers will successfully represent our country and raise our flag”.
