“FOR ISTANBUL, FORMULA 1 IS AN UNFINISHED STORY STARTING ANEW”
Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu regarded return of Formula 1 to Turkey after 9 years as “an unfinished story starting anew”.
In his statement to the press members at Intercity Istanbul Park, Minister Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu said, “Istanbul is a world capital, it is the apple of our eyes. A city that connects continents, a city that is the cradle of civilizations. After 9 years, world-famous legendary racing drivers have come together in Istanbul. We would see the interest and excitement of Turkish youth about Formula 1 when we came together with them. It is a pleasing development for both our young people and our country”.
Noting that there is a great interest in Formula 1 races, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “It is a special excitement for Istanbul that such an important organization is taking place not for the first time, but after 9 years. I would like to state that ‘for Istanbul, Formula 1 is an unfinished story starting anew’. Our country is ready for this organization as always. I hope that, in the coming period, we will organize many beautiful events together with the demands and excitement of our youth”.

Stating that they were saddened by the absence of spectators in the organization due to the pandemic, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “The audience is an important part of this organization, but unfortunately, the pandemic has limited our means. We are pleased to host this organization despite the pandemic. I hope that it will be our privilege to host better events with audience in the future. Two billion people will be all-eyes-and-ears, watching the races in Istanbul this weekend. This weekend, we will host this beautiful event in our city, the pearl of the world, as we have done so far”.
“Ours is a country that is not demanding but is on demand, especially in sports organizations”
Indicating that Turkey competes with the world with the facilities it has, Minister Kasapoğlu said:
“Istanbul is a city that has hosted quite a few brand organizations in football, basketball, volleyball, tennis among others. That takes effort, strenuous work and sweat. This is not a random happening. It is a work of effort, strenuous work, which ours is a country that is not demanding but is on demand, especially in sports organizations. Thanks to the investments that have been made for years, we have facilities shining brightly all across 81 cities of our country, including halls, stadiums, courts and tracks. Just like in Istanbul, such facilities all over our country demonstrate how ambitious our country is about sports tourism”.

Stating that they would bring together many organizations such as Formula 1 with the sports community, Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu said, “We make efforts to that end. We are striving to reach such ideal. The state has been taking steps towards this for the last 18 years. Today, we talk proudly about the progress we have made. Intercity Istanbul Park is among the racetracks that race drivers hold up as an example. 9 years ago, legendary race drivers came here and raced. Both Istanbul and Intercity Istanbul Park continue to be brands that has left their marks in this community”.
Indicating their hope that the organization would be a source of inspiration for young people, Minister Kasapoğlu said, “We have young people who are ambitious in many branches of sports, and they are taking it up a notch day by day. These young people also represent a generation that is rapidly rising in automobile sports. One of them is Ayhancan Güven. We are proud to support these young people and stand by them. And they proudly represent our glorious flag all over the world”.

Sharing the details of the trophy to be awarded at the end of the race, Minister Kasapoğlu said:
“The trophy to be received at the end of the organization is important because the glorious seal of the Republic of Turkey represents how strong it is in these organizations. The trophy bears our crescent and star, Galata Tower, July 15 Martyrs’ Bridge that connects the world. There are tulip motives that are the noble symbol of our country, the symbol of our history and civilization. They represent this magnificence. I would like to express my gratitude to our esteemed President on behalf of our sports community and our young people for ensuring that our country has left its mark on such a grand organization, and for his vision, strong leadership, the self-confidence he has instilled in us and the steps taken to ensure that, his inspiration in these organizations that make us proud, and his sincere support in bringing such organizations to our country”.
After his speech, Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu wished success to athletes and thanked to Intercity Istanbul Park management, Turkey Automobile Federation, Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
